Habitat for Humanity
1. PLEASE BE ON TIME!
The workday is from 9am to 4pm. Please be on site at
9am, so that you may receive the full orientation of the projects that
will be worked on during the day.
2. PLEASE REMAIN ON SITE FOR THE ENTIRE WORKDAY!
In order to maximize workday productivity we ask that
you do not leave in the middle of tasks. If you need to leave early
please let the site supervisor know at the beginning of the day.
3. LIKE THE POST OFFICE, HABITAT WORKS RAIN, SHINE,
SNOW OR SLEET!
Workdays are only cancelled during blizzards! Outside
work would be stopped during the day in the event of a heavy downpour
or lightning in the area.
4. WHAT TO WEAR?
For your own safety please wear work boots or sturdy
sneakers and no sandals! Dress in clothes that you won't mind getting
dirty, stained or torn. We suggest you dress in layers during the
colder months.
5. BRING YOUR OWN TOOLS.
Please bring a hammer, tape measure, utility knife or
nail apron, if at all possible. Any tools can be helpful on a work
site. At the very least bring a pencil; you'll be surprised at how
useful it will be. If you do bring tools be sure to carefully label
them with your name and organization.
6. BRING A BAG LUNCH.
That is unless you are fortunate enough to have lunch
provided by your group. If you need to go out for lunch, fast food is
often, but not always, nearby a work site. Most lunch breaks last
30-45 minutes.
7. YOU DON'T HAVE TO BE SKILLED!
Habitat relies on volunteer workers of all skill
levels. Even if you have never done construction work, your
contribution is needed. You'll definitely learn something and you may
discover some hidden talents you never thought you possessed.
8. NOTIFY YOUR SUPERVISOR OF ANY PRE-EXISTING MEDICAL
CONDITIONS.
Whether you have a bad back, a heart condition or are
allergic to bee stings, any information provided to your supervisor
will help guarantee your safety throughout the workday.
9. YOUTH UNDER THE AGE OF 13 CANNOT WORK ON A HABITAT
SITE.
Youth ages 13-15 are required to have one-on-one
supervision. Youth ages 16-17 are required to have one adult
supervisor directly overseeing every four youth workers. 18 year olds
do not need to be supervised but they cannot act as supervisors for
younger teenagers.
10. HAVE FUN!
Be proud of the fact that you are making a great
contribution to the life of a family and the stability of the
community.
