WeCAN programs include job counseling, meals on wheels, family support programs information and referral, mental health counseling and economic assistance application services. The people served by WeCAN are usually "working poor" who need help because of unexpected financial crisis. In other words, they are just ordinary people who need a helping hand. In 1998 WeCAN served 780 area families. Out of every dollar donated to WeCAN, 93 cents is used for providing programs and services. Only 7 cents out per dollar is used for administration. Walk to End HungerWeCan has their annual Walk to End Hunger in the Fall. The walk starts at FPC, proceeds west 1.5 miles down the Luce Line, and returns to our church for refreshments. Participants in the walk ask other church members, friends, relatives, and acquaintances to donate to the cause of ending world hunger and hunger in our own community. 40% of the funds raised are returned to the participating churches for use in their special social ministry projects. WeCan uses the remaining 60% of the funds to support ongoing programs such as Meals on Wheels and family support programs.
